We love living in Miri - it is a special little place. But over the last year we have become used to the great temperatures, the sunsets, the peace of the camp, the nice golf course, the sunbirds in the garden - the Wow factor seems to have been overtaken by simple acceptance of this peaceful place. Until, that is, last evening, when this little (or actually not so little) beauty landed on our kitchen door.
A cobra butterfly, absolutely enormous and stunning to look at. You can see why it is called a cobra butterfly. The marking on its wings are exactly like an angry cobra, guaranteed to see off any preditor. It was 20 cms across and 10 cms from the head to the bottom of its wing tip.
