There are very few trips you can do comfortably in the summer heat but when Pete and Evelyn asked us to join them on a trip to Musandam in early September we jumped at the chance. It was a return to Oman for both us and the girls, a trip to the mountains and a chance to catch up with Hilary who we hadn’t seen in a while.
And what a trip! An early start from Dubai, a 2 hour drive to the border at Ras Al Khaimah and then a drive on up to Khasab. The Khasab Hotel is still there, much as it was when we last visited in 1995 (although we camped then). The beds may be the hardest we have ever slept in but hey, it was a bed! (Not cheap, mind you). A picnic lunch at the hotel and then on to the afternoon dhow cruise to see the dophins and to snorkel.
Dinner at night in the hotel, an early bed to be up early the next morning for a trip to Khor Najd and Wadi Bih. Claire did almost all of the off road driving on the way into Wadi Bih, and Katy did most of it on the way out. Quite a change from the last time we made that trip when the girls were either asleep in the back or listening to Postman Pat!
