In the Mud!

Ron and Annegreet knew about this old well which had had a blow out and was now a large pool of mud in the middle of an oil palm plantation. We had had a discussion on Christmas Eve about making a trip. Monday 29th was a holiday here so Ron would be able to navigate us all there. 4 familtes came - Seona and Derek and their girls, Hatsie and Martin and the boys, Natasha and her Mum and Dad from Holland, the 4 Wrights and Ron and Annegreet doing the navigating.

It was a 45 minute drive south beyond Lambir Hills on the road to Logan Bunit. The idea was that we would drive as close as possible to the pool, in the plantation. However the entrance roads were blocked so we had to walk in. Unfortunately some of us only had flip flops on so it wasn't a comfortable journey on the dirt tracks. However it was only about 20 minutes so we managed.

Once we got there the pool itself looked rather uninviting - a grey sludgy mass. However John dived in and came up looking like neandertal man. So we just had to join him. And these are the resulting photos! It was really weird - The water was so buoyant we floated like corks on the surface. The pools were too deep to touch the bottom yet we all look like we are wading - but we are simply floating.
