Thursday 3 November
We were sad to leave Room with a View in Plett Bay. Left just before 10.00 to drive to George. Roads were not busy so arrived at Fancourt just after 11.30 after a detour due to a wrong location on the Garmin GPS. The iPad app came to the rescue.
A quick salad for lunch and then out for our 13.00 tee time on the Montagu course. Our caddy was Ethan, he carried Kay's bag and H took a trolley. Interesting and challenging course, one of three at Fancourt.
Good weather for the first 9 holes but then into jumpers for the second 9. Kay won convincingly today ( 5&3 ). Quick drink in the clubhouse and then decided to find the B&B before it got dark. We had booked a budget double but have once again been upgraded at no cost to the luxury suite, big room with terrace, two double beds, kitchen etc. Shame that we will hardly be here to use the facilities including the pool in the garden. Had dinner at the Rose on York street, nice waiter and food. The wine was Glen Carlou Cabernet Sauvignon - the winery where we ate last Saturday!
Friday 4 November
Today we headed for Oubaai, which was designed by Ernie Els and where he has a home close by. The weather was not promising, heavy overcast and a 42km wind, and the situation had not improved by the time we reached the coast. The course was not busy so we set off early. Strong winds for the whole round. Kay had a another great game and shot a 94 despite the conditions – felt like Orkney, that’s probably why! We saw one sea eagle from the course.
Saturday 5 November
Had a stroll around the George Botanical Gardens - we just fancied a bit of a walk in the bright and again breezy day. However the Gardens were tiny and not what we expected so checked the map on iPad and headed to the end of the road then walked for about 50 minutes in the low hills behind George. Still saw nothing to promote George as a place to live! Off to the airport, got the car checked in OK. No problem with weight of suitcases or golf bags. We boarded our Kulula flight - great fun, a real light-hearted approach to the whole business of flying – Ryan Air could take a tip or two! Greeted in Johannesburg by Chantelle our B and B landlady. A simple dinner out and to bed, excited for our early pick up the next day from Tydon Safaris.
