Sunday 6 November
Gavin arrived at 8.20 and together we drove the 5 hours from Jo'Burg. A very interesting drive from the flat plains up into the hills around the Kruger t
The Tydon camp is just outside the Sabi Sands gate ( Shaw's Gate ). Our first glimpse of African Bush wildlife was a hippo wallowing in a pool – whetting our appetite for what was to come! And then we were welcomed by some local children showing us a traditional dance!
Our tent was tremendous – all the mod cons – bathroom with a shower, AC, nice beds etc. We were given an hour or two to relax and unwind and then had a snack lunch in the restaurant and met the team, Joy and Lyam. We headed off to Sabi Sands at 3PM with Lyam. We saw some animals as we drove into Sabi Sands from the Tydon truck but the real excitement came when we transferred into the Defender open truck with our tracker sitting on the bonnet! Then we really got up close and personal. We were in search of a leopard they thought was in the area but never found it unfortunately. We stopped for drinks and to watch the sun set and then headed on through the bush looking for nocturnal animals.
Saw elephant, kudu, impala, grey duiker, Steen buck, waterbuck, wildebeest, white rhino, Burchells zebra, giraffe, hyena, cape buffalo, chameleon, wattled plover, nightjar, grey loerie, 'bright blue starling'.
