What more could we ask? A gorgeous day, not too much wind and fantastic views in Harris. Uist was fairly flat and maybe slightly boring but my goodness did Harris perform!
Up early and breakfast at 7.15am I order to beat the 8 cyclists catching the same ferry as us, and just to make sure we did have enough time to get there. It was a beautiful still early morning so I was able to get a good photo of the ferry as she left for Skye….this is one of the ferries that has been causing problems!
We had a pleasant wait in the sunshine at Berneray - we had about an hour to wait.
The journey itself took just under an hour as ithe boat wove through all the skerries and islands in the Sound of Harris. A beautiful morning with lovely views from the boat…
Once landed we were off and running, through the town of Leverburgh and up the west coast, with fantastic views all the way. And a 9 hole golf course! Harris is so beautiful we are keen to return with the BMW and some golf clubs and maybe stay in one of the many fabulous houses for rent along that western edge. They were all so beautiful we are hopeful that some of the locals get to stay in some too! What we also noticed in Harris for the first time was peat cutting, quite a lot of it.
However we did have a small problem as we got close to Tarbert. Howards chain came off so we had a tricky time trying to get it sorted. However with the use of some tools and a lot of greasy fingers we got it back on and we’re able to get to Tarbert.
