After breakfast the others went off on a guided tour of the Alcazar. Because we’d been before we went off and explored more of the old town. Our first stop was a coffee on the roof terrace of El Corte Inglés with great views across the city.
We spotted an interesting roof a short distance away so on checking discovered it was the Setas de Seville. It is a large wooden structure finished in 2011, and claims to be the biggest wooden structure in the world. It consists of 6 parasols which look like mushrooms, hence the nickname the Mushrooms of Seville.
We strolled past the Casa de Pilatos (a palace with lovely gardens apparently) but we were a little short of time so didn’t go in.
We met up with the others for a drink while they had lunch and then we wandered off again to check out the location of tonight’s entertainment and an appropriate bar to meet for a drink beforehand. We both had an ice cream, bought some water and Howard went back to the hotel while I went off and bought some jeans from C&A, in preparation for a cold return to the UK! I went back and packed but still felt the need for some exercise so did a walk along the river, across the bridge into Triana, and back over the bridge next to the Tower of Gold. There was a very interesting art installation just there on the river bank…
We met at the bar we had chosen at 7pm, had some bottles of fizz to celebrate Jaynes birthday, gave her a little present for fun, and proceeded to the venue for 8.30. It was a much smaller and more intimate venue than we thought, which was great. Our table was right next to the stage, and we were soon to find out how fantastic that was. But first the food and drink. A glass of sherry, 4 bottles of wine on the table and some very good food. For a tourist venue we ere really surprised at the quality of the food and wine. The show started at 9.30 and no cameras or video were permitted, so it’s down to the inadequacy of words to describe the evening - Passion Power Precision. The 3 dancers, 2 singers and 1 guitarist treated us to an extravaganza of flamenco with high energy dances amazing vocals and guitar playing and a sense that they were all totally absorbed in their art and enjoying themselves. We were all stunned and elated by the performance, right next to our table. Utterly fantastic. Afterwards we had a final drink at a bar close to the hotel.
