Riding the Danube - Day 2 Passau to Engelhartszell - Saturday

A nice light breakfast in our room before we set off to explore Passau in daylight. It’s a very pretty town, with a nice cathedral and the very dramatic confluence of 3 rivers, the Danube, the Inn and the Ilz. There is a draw ic change of colour of the Danube when it meets the Inn. It’s possibly blue until Passau but thereafter it is very definitely chalky brown!

We had a lovely drink in a cafe overlooking the Inn and then back to the point and back to a nice cafe for lunch. A visit to the cathedral and then moseyed back to the hotel for a 3.45 taxi to the boat.

Light breakfast in our hotel room!

Cafe overlooking the Inn - note the colour!

Outside our hotel
The Blue Danube!

The brown Inn!

The cathedral

The meeting of the Inn and the Blue Danube. Thereafter there isn’t any blue!

We were on the boat  - the Swiss Crown - by 4 having watched her come up the river. She is a beautiful boat inside, our cabins are lovely - small but with an en-suite and balcony, the staff are fabulous and the food is great.

Once we were all on board we set off down the river, while we had first of all drinks on the deck, cocktails and canapés in the bar and then a lovely dinner in the restaurant.

That evening we sailed as far as Enkelhartszell, through some deep locks, all tied up and ready for our cycle in the morning.
