We had a most spectacular day today, although really tiring. Be prepared for a huge pile of photos and nothing else - we walked for 5 hours looking at the most stunning views so I am going to post as many photos as the terrible internet here will allow. We ran out of superlatives after about 5 minutes. In brief, a 1.5 hour bus journey to Glacier Point with Bob a bus driver in Yosemite for 25 years who told us as many tales as he could in the time. Very entertaining, and sad, as he told the story of the Native Indians and their banishment from Yosemite. We reached Glacier Point at 7214ft around 10, and we set off to walk the 8 miles and 5 hours back to the village at 11am. It was spectacular.
Taken from Glacier Point, where the bus dropped us. There used to be 2 hotels here but when they both burned down a few years ago it was decided to develop this place for everyone to enjoy.
A panorama picture with Half Dome on the right. That mountain dominated our walk
A Chinese bride with her camera crew getting pre wedding photos. We last saw such a thing on the Great Wall!
Half way maybe. We came from over on the left and we're heading up and over the slope on the left, to come back to the valley below Half Dome
Kay at one of the rivers we crossed. Very little water at this time of the year. Spring melt water would be spectacular.
Up to this point we had mostly been descending and the walking had been easy. Little did we know there was a large slope ahead of us and then a really tough steep descent to the valley floor.
On the way down. Here we were walking under what would be a waterfall. This whole section was a really tough downslope, goat tracking back and forth.
And finally we joined the John Muir Trail. The very same man That's commemorated by the John Muir Way which almost passes our house on its way deform Dunbar to Helensburgh.
This was the last section we walked - across the top from right to left and then a zig zag down from the left. Phew!
