Warm enough to Camp!

Day 19 Monday 15/05/17 We passed 2000 miles from home today
Breakfast on our patio just below the pool
All packed again and leaving Nice at 9.45am with the temperature already 20C. We drove along the Promenade des Anglais and followed the coast via Antibes to Cannes. Lots of evidence of wealth around, big villas and seriously big boats. Driving along the beach was lovely
Customised Fiat 500 - only in Cannes!

From Cannes we left the coast and headed inland via Mougins (busy roads) to Fayence, which had been the scene of James and Liz’s 25th wedding anniversary celebration. The town is bigger than we remembered but the old heart remains as idyllic as ever. We had a coffee at a café beside the church which I am sure we frequented back in 1994 and then wandered on  before enjoying our picnic at a spot where the updraft helped to ameliorate the 26C midday heat.
Back in the car we headed to the Gorge du Verdon.  This was a memory from even earlier times as we had driven the road along the Gorge in 1981 on our very first Continental road trip. The road and the views were quite as spectacular as we remembered.
Howard is there - very small!
We hadn’t booked accommodation for tonight assuming that we could find somewhere on a Monday night in May, especially since we planned to camp. Kay checked reviews for some sites at the Lac de Sainte-Croix, the artificial lake beyond the Gorge, and found good references for a site called Les Pins right on the edge of the lake below the village of Les Salles sur Verdon. We checked in and found a nice quiet pitch. Our landlady assured us this was a great time to be here as July and August are busy, hot and unpleasant. We finally unpacked all the stuff from the little car so that we could access the camping gear and set up our tent. A great photo opportunity for all those doubters that we hadn't enough space! J
All this came out of the boot...camping gear, cooking equipment, 2 sets of golf clubs, 2 bags, a set of boules and bats and miscellaneous other stuff!
We walked into the village for groceries only to find that the 8 a Huit actually closed at 6.30pm (and opens at 9am!) So we walked through the village and came across the Le Chene Vert where we had a great menu for EUR17 and a couple of drinks.
Then a stroll back to the campsite and a coffee in the campsite lounge whilst, at 9.30pm I write this entry.
We passed 2000 miles on the trip today.
Nice to Les Salles sur Verdon 105 miles, total 2007 miles
