A lazy day in Polignano a Mare - Day 11

It was very nice to wake up in our bijou apartment, to our own terrace and to know we won’t be moving on today. We ate our more usual breakfast for once. We ate on the patio while it was still in the shade and cool enough. By 9AM it was already 26C and was probably not less than 21C overnight so we are concerned that camping might be impractical.

Breakfast on the terrace with our washing done!
Prickly pears are everywhere in this area

Our first close up of a Trulli house - many more to come!

Loaded up with water we set off to explore the town. It’s built right on the edge of the cliffs and the cliffs themselves are full of huge caves. The views from the various terraces are fabulous and the colour of the sea is amazing. Sadly we are missing the Red Bull World Cliff  Diving Championships which are here on the 18th. But the construction of diving platforms is going full tilt. A 30 metre one was in construction today.

You can just see the diving platform in this photo

We walked along the cliff edges through town, with many, many large caves below our feet!  Bizarrely a bride and groom were being married on paddle boards in one of the coves.

The wedding party!

We also again popped into another church’s open door - always a cool and peaceful escape from the heat and tourists!

It was 35C so we came back to the apartment for a chill afternoon then went out for a pre dinner drink at a gin bar we saw this morning, EUR18 for 2 gins, although the location probably upped the price.

The 30 metre diving platform lit up, from our dinner terrace

Dinner was at Il Bastione, a lovely restaurant right on the cliff edge with great views and good food.

It was whilst we were dining that we got the news that the Queen had died at Balmoral. Very sad to lose her and the stability & certainty that she has delivered through all of our lifetimes.
