A long day of driving. Another beautiful breakfast by the pool with Vittorio and his helpers, and packed and on the road by 10. The plan is to head BACK to the east coast to Pecara to avoid the rain, and high prices of the west coast between Scalea and Rome. With Howard driving we had a relatively easy day, with a great deal of it on good roads through the central mountains. Views of hilltop villages and interesting hillsides.
It was approximately a 5 hour drive so we took a break around 12.30 in Melfi, a random small on the road. A bit of a search for a cafe, and indeed the most expensive coffee Howard has ever had! Coffee is normally 1 or 2 euros - his Americano was 5! We assume it was a mistake on the till!
The rain started as we left. We hoped it might clean the car which has got incredibly dusty! (It did, a bit). We also saw some terrible driving along the way - again. Tail gating, driving over lines, overtaking in ridiculous places. Really?
Onto the motorway at Foggia and arrival at Pescara around 4.30, we found a Lidl and did some shopping for our 3 night stay here. We checked in with Eduardo at 5pm and quickly settled into our modern apartment with off street parking right into front of our apartment.
Before tea we walked to the beach to orientate ourselves and see what Pescara has to offer. It wasn’t cold but it was grey and blowy and there were spitting of rain. There seemed to be one or two busy bars at the beach, but all to be explored tomorrow. Back home to the flat for tea and a lazy night in.
