Exploring Percara - Day 19

Breakfast on the balcony with a view over the street and our parking. The street is busy but we are not disturbed by it all all.

The beach north of the river at Pescara is about 9 kms long, covered in umbrellas much as we had seen in Rimini. However things are quieter now, and we even saw some umbrellas being brought in - a sign that summer is ending perhaps, but not in terms of temperature- it was 31degs today. Setting out to explore  we walked the 4 kms along the beach from our apartment to the port and river of Pescara, about a 55 minute walk. We had lots of water with us and the breeze off the sea helped us to keep cool. Our objective was the Ponte del Mare, a walking and cycling bridge over the river, built in 2007. It gave us a good view of the city, the beach, the marina and the fishing fleet.

Afterwards we headed for the centre of the town for a coffee in the shade. The commercial centre is pedestrianised and was very nice. Lots of nice cafes to choose from. And a mere 2.50 euros each for our coffees!

For the walk back to the apartment we stayed on the streets so that we could exploit shade where we found it. After lunch and a siesta allowing the day to cool a little we went back to the beach for a swim in the Adriatic, a game of bat & ball and a drink on the sand. A short stop for a drink and aperitivo at one of the bars near the apartment and then home for dinner. Some excitement when the power tripped in the apartment as we were using the oven but the host was quick to respond and all was solved. Dinner on the balcony - slightly cooler than the kitchen which has no AC

The water is incredibly shallow!
