We had a luxurious breakfast at the hotel with all the staff in formal uniforms. We then set off looking for a bike hire place, not too far from the hotel. We found them with a very chatty lady not far from the hotel. We used her guide map to explore the beach to the marina (with a big Ferris wheel) and then up the canal to a very old part of town - fisherman’s house perhaps? Then onto the Tiberius bridge, a first century bridge that is still in use carrying pedestrian and bike traffic across the canal.
Along Via Augusta towards the central piazza we glimpsed part of an enormous bronze rhino and detoured to find it was at the Fellini museum. We checked out the castle and the Augustine Arch and then up to a nice lake and park when we sat in the shade for a while. We the cycled back the beach and headed south out to bagno 108 for a welcome drink and some respite from the sun. The beach was quite quiet so we paddled in rather nice warm water.
We then headed back as we could see there were miles and miles of similar beach infrastructure! We were able to park our bikes on the underground car park of the hotel and spent the next couple of hours in the cool of our penthouse planning the next part of the trip.
As the temperature dipped a little we had our drinks on the terrace and then got ready to head out for dinner. We had booked a restaurant recommended by our bike lady so we cycled up to the centre for a drink first. There was a demonstration by service workers - life guards, firemen etc - all very peaceful but the tv cameras were there. Our drinks included a very substantial set of nibbles which turned out to be free!
On to La Mi Mama where we had a lovely meal and afterwards headed home down the by this time familiar cycle tracks. We packed ready for a fast get away tomorrow.
